AhlulBayt News Agency: The Hamas Movement marked World Refugee Day by affirming that the Palestinian refugee issue can only be resolved through the complete end of the Israeli occupation and the return of all Palestinian refugees to their original homes, from which they were forcibly displaced during the Nakba and subsequent Israeli offensives.
In a statement issued Friday, Hamas reiterated that the right of return is both an individual and collective right that is non-negotiable and cannot be nullified by time or political maneuvering.
The Movement emphasized that this right is enshrined in international law, United Nations conventions, and resolutions—particularly UN General Assembly Resolution 194, which affirms the right of Palestinian refugees to return and receive compensation.
Hamas condemned the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza, noting that the war—marked by mass killings, starvation tactics, and widespread forced displacement—has deepened the suffering of Palestinian refugees. The Movement urged the international community to uphold its “legal, moral, and political responsibility” by taking urgent action to halt Israeli crimes of genocide and aggression.
The statement also denounced Israeli military raids and systematic destruction in refugee camps across the occupied West Bank, dubbing these attacks as deliberate attempts to erase the historical and political identity of Palestinian refugees and their struggle for justice.
Calling for greater international accountability, Hamas urged global actors to intensify efforts to bring Israeli leaders before international courts for “crimes against humanity.” It also called for the diplomatic and political isolation of what it termed the “fascist Israeli entity,” which it described as a threat to international peace and security.
Hamas firmly rejected ongoing Israeli and US-backed efforts to dismantle or undermine the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), warning of attempts to transfer the agency’s mandate to alternative bodies.
The Movement stressed that preserving UNRWA’s role until the full implementation of the right of return is essential to safeguarding Palestinian refugees’ rights and holding the international community to its long-standing obligations.
Since the 1948 Nakba, millions of Palestinians have remained displaced, awaiting justice and the restoration of their most basic right: to return home.
